GCSE ICT Companion 04 Standalone Installation |
These instructions explain how to install the GCSE ICT Companion 04 onto the hard disc drive of a standalone computer so that the package can be used without the CD in the drive.
To install the ICT Companion onto a hard disk drive you need to copy the folder ict4 from the CD onto the hard disk. This can be done using Windows Explorer. You can then access the ICT Companion by simply opening the file index.htm in the ict4 folder with a suitable web browser.
These instructions explain how to carry out this process in more detail.
| 1.
Go to the Start Menu and choose Programs then select the Windows Explorer icon. 2.  | Scroll down the list in the left hand window until you find your CD drive and then click on the icon for the CD drive. It should look similar to this, but the drive letter (e.g. E:) may be different :
3.  | The right hand window will
now display the files and folders that are stored on the CD. Click once on the ict4
folder to select it. Do not click twice to open it.
|
4.  | Go to the Edit menu and choose the Copy option. 5.  | Now you need to select where on your hard disk you want to put the ICT Companion. Most people choose to put it in the root folder of the C Drive but you can put it anywhere you want to. If you choose to put the ICT Companion in the root folder of the C Drive then follow these steps :
If you wish to install the ICT Companion to a different place then simply select that folder instead. 6.  | Go to the Edit menu and choose the Paste option. The ICT Companion will now be copied from the CD onto your hard drive. 7.  | If you do not want the answers to the worksheets to be available
in the installation then delete the directories store and aspdb from within the ict4 folder after the files have copied.

You can now use the ICT Companion without the CD. To access the ICT Companion you need to load your web browser. To use the ICT Companion without answers open the file index.htm in the ict4 folder. To use the ICT Companion with answers open the file aindex.htm in the ict4 folder instead (note this will not work if the store directory has been deleted).
You can create a shortcut icon on the desktop which will allow you to load the ICT Companion more quickly. Click here to find out how to do this. Alternatively you could make the ICT Companion index page your home page or create a bookmark/favorite for it in your web browser. Please see the help instructions provided with your browser for an explanation of how to do this.
