Modems : Compression

Data can be transferred between two computers more quickly if it is compressed (reduced in size) before it is transmitted.

Some modems can compress data down to one quarter of its original size before it is sent. This will effectively quadruple the speed at which data can be transmitted.

The data must be decompressed by the modem connected to the receiving computer. Both modems must include the appropriate compression software for compression to be used during data transmission.
